Re:         Hurricane Harvey in Texas and headed to Louisiana

Dear Fellow Member:

You have undoubtedly been following the reports of the terrible disaster in Houston and the surrounding area caused by Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath.  Many members have contacted us and suggested ways to respond as an Academy to help our members and others who may be suffering because of this tragedy.

South Texas is one of the largest and most active chapters in our Academy.  The city of Houston alone has over 30 active members living in the city limits as well as many past presidents.  As such, help for our members, their families, and other victims of Hurricane Harvey is urgently needed.  Therefore, we ask you to join your fellow members and contribute in one or more of the following ways:

  1. Send a check or donate online to charities in the Houston area (i.e., American Red Cross, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, United Way, etc.); see links below.

American Red Cross

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston

United Way

If you wish to acknowledge your association with the Academy, please include “AAA-CPA” on the Memo line of any check sent or include such phrase in the description of the online donation.  Additionally, if you wish to see a running total of amounts donated by members, please send a copy of the check or online donation confirmation to Kimmy Headland (info@attorney-cpa.com) who will compile the information and include the amount in our Weekly Update.

  1. Provide office space and/or clerical services to fellow members from the stricken areas to assist them in creating satellite offices to help them rebuild their practices. Please contact the Academy office listed below if you have any such capacity and are located in an area relatively near the Houston region.
  1. Provide virtual office clerical and document production services to fellow members to assist them in rebuilding their businesses. You do not have to be located near the disaster region to participate.  Please contact the Academy office listed below if you can assist in providing such services.
  1. For those located in areas surrounding the devastation, provide living space in your home, garage apartment, second home or other location to house displaced members and their families. Please contact the Academy office listed below if you are in a position to provide such relief.

The above methods are the quickest and most efficient methods of assisting Hurricane Harvey victims.  However, some interest has been expressed in establishing a fund to directly assist our members.   If you prefer to do this you can send a charitable donation the Academy office made out to The Attorney-CPA Foundation, Inc. with the re line “Emergency Fund.” We will work to assist our members in need who contact the Academy office to the extent we can with these funds.

Regardless of how you chose to participate, please keep the victims of the Hurricane Harvey in your thoughts and prayers.  Our Academy is more than just a collection of Attorney-CPAs and we must strive to do all that we can to assist those affected by these extreme circumstances.

Thank you in advance for your continued support of our Academy and your assistance to the Hurricane Harvey victims.

Sincerely,

Eric J. Rollinger Patti Richards
